Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, stated on Friday that the People Democratic Party was not made up of a phantom membership. Adeleke revealed the information in Osogbo during her speech to the Osun PDP stakeholders’ meeting. She was alluding to a statement made by Senator Ajibola Basiru, the national secretary of the All Progressives Congress, during the opening of the APC e-membership registration and “Train-the-Trainer” workshop held in Abuja on Thursday.

According to a PUNCH report, Basiru questioned the APC’s 45 million members at the gathering, claiming that the number was a fake used to further causes unrelated to the party’s current leadership. He further revealed that the secret was eventually revealed during the 2023 election, when Bola Tinubu, the current president of the APC, battled to collect fewer than 10 million votes in order to easily win.

Speaking to party leaders and supporters who had attended to the ceremony, the governor of Osun announced that, under the party’s national leadership’s direction, it is now imperative to update the PDP registration in the state.

“We must not discriminate against each other,” he declared. We are a progressive family of allies. With our party serving as a platform, we are allies rather than foes in the fight to bring about the benefits of democracy. In light of this, we must immediately amend our register in accordance with the national headquarters’ instruction. The registration process needs to be accurate and comprehensive. We must not behave in the same way as an other party that fabricated its party membership list.

“We have to make sure that actual people, not ghosts, are listed as party members. The PDP is not a party of phantom supporters and employees. PDP is the voice of the people, and we need to include actual individuals in our database. He appealed for unity within the party and reassured PDP members that the party is ready to build the people without giving up on constructing the state.
