With his latest album Johann Sebastian Bachlava the Doctor, Action Bronson has made a comeback. This is his first solo endeavor in more than ten years.
The 11-track album, which was released on Thursday, July 11, in honor of his mother’s 80th birthday, has cameos from guitarist Julian Love, saxophonist Yung Mehico, and regular collaborators Larry June, The Alchemist, and Meyhem Lauren.
Behind the scenes, Daringer, Bronson, and The Alchemist form a close-knit team that produces the show.
The Queens, New York rapper released two-part music videos for the singles “Nourish a Thug” and “Sega” ahead of time, which depict his made-up character, Dr. Baklava, escaping the law.

Last week, Bronson announced the Johann Sebastian Bachlava the Doctor release date on Instagram. He wrote, “July 11th, the 2024th year of the Lord, is the day I will be releasing my newest musical offering, Johann Sebastian Bachlava the Doctor. It’s also the 80th anniversary of my mothering an incredible woman.”

The rapper-turned-chef first hinted at the album’s release last year when he uploaded a video of himself playing the keyboard with a drummer and saxophonist.
“BIG BAKURABA IS COMING TO TOWN,” was how Bronson captioned the photo, laying out his high goals for the project. Time for the Grammys. The doctor, Jonathan Sebastian Baklava.
Following Cocodrillo Turbo, which arrived in April 2022 via Loma Vista/Concord, is Johann Sebastian Bachlava the Doctor.
The album, which included collaborations with Roc Marciano, The Alchemist, Conway The Machine, and other artists, received mostly favorable reviews.
Writer Ben Brutocao gave it a 3.9 out of 5 rating on HipHopDX, calling it a “deeply theatrical” and “interesting” album in which Bronson “serves as both the titular crocodile and the adventurer cutting through the vines.”
Questlove, the hip-hop historian and drummer for The Roots, was also won by. He posted on social media, saying, “Wow.” I did not anticipate being as impressed by this new Bronson jawn as I was. This [emoji of a crocodile] may be his best record to date.
