Since becoming well-known for hits like “No More Parties,” “BIG PURR (Prrdd),” and “TWINNEM,” Coi Leray has experienced a great deal of change. The rapper disclosed a significant career turning point—getting a pixie cut—in a cover story for Teen Vogue’s first-ever “MOMENT” series.
Leray narrated the incident with fun and clarity: “I thought I wouldn’t have to worry about getting my hair done anymore once I chopped it! It’s going to be simple. She added to the magazine, saying, “I didn’t even realize I was going through something.” Not that I was worried out when I chopped my hair, but if you look at the timing and the way things went, it seems like I had a breaking point.”
The “Players” hitmaker had a major makeover in July 2023, barely one month after Uptown Records released her sophomore album, COI.
Leray joined artists including Tink, UMI, and Kiana Ledé as a supporting act on Jhené Aiko’s “The Magic Hour Tour” in June. The performers are scheduled to perform on Wednesday night at Houston’s Toyota Center before traveling to Austin, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Seattle, among other locations. The journey will come to an end on August 22 in Columbus, Ohio.
“We never had the chance to meet! However, I am acquainted with her sister and my makeup artist, Nikko Anthony. Leray responded, “He’s our link-up,” when questioned about her prior exchanges with Aiko. “I believe we may have chatted once over direct message, but he always tells me how happy I am to meet her and how excited she is to meet me. It’s going to be an amazing tour. I am the rapper; there are a lot of R&B vocalists in it. I’ll contribute that vigor.
Lemon Cars, executive produced by Mike WiLL Made-It, was released by Leray in May. Songs like “Can’t Come Back” and “Coke Bottle Body” featuring Skilla Baby were included on the EP.
