The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) branch has commenced a five-day warning strike over the non-payment of salaries owed some members.
NARD vice-president Ashiru Mikail made this statement on Monday in Zaria at a press conference.
According to Mr. Mikail, the group handed hospital administration a one-week ultimatum on July 15 to respond to their requests or risk a warning strike.
He said that the warning attack was initiated since the ultimatum expired on Sunday.
After the warning strike, the association would reassemble, according to the president, to assess its plan and decide on the next course of action.
According to Mr. Mikail, the association requests that members reimburse a portion of the money that was withheld from them and refuses percentage wage payments for members on the GIFMIS platform.
He claims that in June, the impacted members’ pay were reduced by roughly 25 to 27 percent, or N58,000 to N60,000.
He clarified that the doctors who received percentage payments in June were entitled to 2021 wage arrears.
“The management did not provide the organization with any justification for the deductions, despite the severe economic difficulties facing the nation. In order to balance the monthly arrears of accoutrement allowance from the overhead cost, the management proposed paying N2 million.
“Out of the N100,000 owed to each member, this sum may only pay N5,000 each member each month. While over 60% of federal tertiary health institutions in the North West zone have started to pay the arrears of accoutrement allowance, ABUTH has not done so and has instead suggested paying N5,000 rather than N25,000, the speaker stated.
He claims that among other things, the association is demanding that the 25% CONMESS upward review of members’ pay be implemented on the GIFMIS platform.
