The Abia government states it has begun measures to resolve the concerns related to the failure to remit the required 10 percent check-off fees to the Nigeria Labour Congress.
Governor Alex Otti revealed this on Wednesday during a visit from the NLC president, Joe Ajaero, to Nvosi in the Isiala Ngwa South council area.
Mr. Otti instructed the state government’s secretary, Kenneth Kalu, along with other officials, to look into the non-remittance issue and ensure adherence to the sanctioned remittance procedures.
He characterized his administration as supportive of labor, noting that the government had allocated resources to settle 16 years of unpaid benefits owed to the families of deceased workers from Abia.
In response to the NLC’s appeal for an appropriate secretariat, Mr. Otti directed land allocation for the initiative and assured the government’s commitment to assist in its development.
Mr. Ajaero praised the governor for his leadership focused on the people and the noticeable progress throughout the state, such as the refurbishment of hostels at Abia State University, Uturu
