J. Cole is making his podcast debut with a brand-new “limited audio series” in which he will discuss his path to hip-hop fame and reveal unreleased tracks.
Cole, his longtime manager Ibrahim “Ib” Hamad, and frequent collaborator Scott Lazer, who has directed the rapper’s previous concert films, documentaries, and music videos like “Kevin’s Heart” and “ATM,” will co-host Inevitable, which was announced on Sunday, November 17.
A synopsis states, “Jermaine Cole uses both released and unreleased music to guide the story as he takes listeners on an unfiltered journey through his life, career, and personal evolution in this raw and reflective limited audio series.”
“Cole narrates his journey from his early days as a young, aspiring rapper to finally seeing his dreams become a reality, despite the many hurdles and pitfalls he faces along the way, through conversations with Scott Lazer and Ibrahim Hamad in Season 1.”
The concept started in 2022 when the three “sat down to record a little conversation” after Ib discovered an old laptop that contained unreleased songs and old demos from the Dreamville leader, which “conjured up all these amazing memories that they’ve shared over the years,” according to a trailer for the series that J. Cole shared on social media.
In the video, Lazer states, “One day turned into two, two days turned into three.” “We continued for eight days, following Cole’s career from the very beginning, when he began penning his first songs, until the present. Naturally, we spoke about everything from relationships to the music.
Cole stated the series had a “emotional” and “therapeutic” effect on him and referred to it as “a movie in the form of a conversation” in his social media post.
He remarked, “I was riveted to the story as if it were someone else’s when I heard it with new ears.” Hearing about the highs and lows, as well as how everything turned out in the end, occasionally made me feel my heart race.
“I gained a great deal of clarity from it, and I now have a deeper understanding of the power of having a dream, the power of nourishing that dream with a clear vision, the magic that occurs when we remain in line with God, and the potential for darkness to arise during times that we don’t.”
Cole, who is typically reserved, said that he was first reluctant to divulge so much of his life experience but finally felt it was worthwhile to do so in the hopes of encouraging others to follow their own aspirations.
“I know that hearing this from someone who went for theirs and’made it’ would give me a lot of motivation if I were a younger version of myself.” I think it’s worth sharing because of that,” he continued.
I thus hope that this will give you even more perspective and fill in a lot of blanks if you have supported me during my journey. I hope this will uplift your spirits, giving you the courage to believe in your dreams and the motivation to persevere through difficult times, if you have any personal goals you’d like to accomplish in life. to pursue your goals despite your fears.
The first of the ten episodes of season one will air on Inevitable’s official website on Monday, November 18, at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT. A minimum of $10 is required to access all episodes, while fans are free to pay extra if they so choose.
Before J. Cole’s highly anticipated seventh album, The Fall-Off, which he said earlier this year he was “at the tail-end” of finishing, the series premieres. No release date has been specified.
