In anticipation of the release of his Faith of a Mustard Seed album later this month, Mustard has shared what may be the most intimate single off the record, which features him both behind the boards and the microphone.
On Friday, July 12, the California beatmaker released “Pray For Me,” which features his first-ever recorded verse.
Throughout the song, Mustard talks about his friends and family, both the living and the deceased.
He said to XXL, “I used to always say I would never rap on a song.” It seems as though no one has ever heard my side of the tale.
However, I thought that this would be the ideal opportunity to let everyone know where I have been spending the last five years.
“Even if you didn’t like the rap, you really liked, understood he’s saying some real shit, what he’s saying is honest, and it’s vulnerable,” the speaker said. “I always wanted to talk about something that was real to me.”

Mustard disclosed last month that the late Nipsey Hussle was the inspiration behind the title of Faith of a Mustard Seed.
While working on the lead single for the producer’s last album, Perfect Ten (released in 2019), Nipsey recommended that Mustard call the project Faith Of A Mustard Seed. But by that point, the producer had already secured the aforementioned title.
“And [Nipsey] was like, ‘Well, you gotta do Faith Of A Mustard Seed before it’s all said and done,'” he remembered.
The West Coast beatmaker actually had another title in mind when he started working on the new CD, which he might still use, but after he sampled a Luther Vandross song, he realized that Nip’s suggested title made sense because his mother is a huge fan of the singer.
Faith Of A Mustard Seed is scheduled for release on July 26 and will be made possible by a new collaboration with BMG.
In a statement to Billboard, Mustard stated, “I’m happy to join forces with BMG, a company known for its dedication to nurturing artistic independence, integrity, and innovation.” “Together, we’ll keep pushing the envelope of creativity and producing ground-breaking music that appeals to listeners everywhere.”
