Following Manchester United’s lackluster loss against Everton, manager Rúben Amorim didn’t hold back in his evaluation, frankly stating that his team deserved to be defeated in the Premier League match.
According to a report by BBC Sports on Tuesday, Amorim commented after the game that United couldn’t match Everton’s energy and skill, even after playing with an advantage in players for over an hour.
When prompted to summarize his team’s showing, Amorim said quite simply, “They performed better. We earned the defeat.”
“An opponent got a red card after only twenty minutes. In that situation, we absolutely must win, no matter the circumstances.”
PUNCH Online previously reported that Everton managed to secure a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford on Monday despite a bizarre incident where Idrissa Gueye was ejected for hitting his own teammate, Michael Keane.
“The crowd at Old Trafford was ready to give us a huge boost, but I didn’t feel we were prepared.
“I keep emphasizing the same point, even with all the recent praise regarding our progress over the past few weeks. We are nowhere close to the level we should be at this organization,” Amorim added.
The club invested heavily during the summer, spending £250 million to improve a squad that had disastrously finished 15th the previous season.
Manchester United is currently in 10th place in the league standings, grouped alongside Tottenham, Everton, and Liverpool, and are only three points away from a Champions League qualification spot.
