The Kebbi State government has committed N4.05 billion to renovate seven public hospitals, according to State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Junaidu Marshall. He informed reporters after a cabinet meeting in Birnin Kebbi, led by Governor Nasir Idris, that this initiative demonstrates the government’s dedication to improving healthcare and ensuring well-equipped hospitals for its citizens.

The hospitals slated for upgrades are located in Kambaza, Suru, Kamba, Dirin-Daji, Kangiwa, Koko, and Yauri. Marshall mentioned that the Argungu General Hospital had already been modernized. He added that refurbishment projects are complete or underway at hospitals in Zaga, Zuru, Bunza, Gulma, Bena, Jega, Shanga, and the Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi.

This recent approval brings the total to 16 general hospitals either renovated or undergoing renovation under the current administration. The governor has pledged to refurbish and properly equip all 30 general hospitals in the state before his term concludes.

Furthermore, the council approved N570 million for the Kebbi Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KECHEMA) to enroll 45,000 vulnerable residents from the State Social Register, aiming for at least 200 individuals from each of the state’s 225 districts. This will enhance KECHEMA’s ability to provide affordable healthcare to those in need.

Marshall also mentioned the state’s contribution to the World Bank IMPACT project, facilitating the rehabilitation of 73 primary healthcare centers. To further support this, the council approved renovating an additional 42 primary healthcare centers across various local government areas to meet national standards.

A take-off grant of N407.5 million was also sanctioned for the Kebbi State Drugs, Medical and Consumable Agency to ensure the supply of subsidized medicines. Marshall urged for public cooperation, reaffirming the government’s commitment to enhancing the populace’s quality of life.

Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Abba Sani-Kalgo, added that the council has also approved the establishment of the Kebbi State Bureau of Statistics, assigning a take-off grant of N900 million. This agency, headed by Professor Umar Usman as the Statistician-General, will collect dependable data for effective development planning and monitoring.

Agriculture Commissioner, Shehu Mu’azu, announced the approval of N3 billion for procuring 2,000 power tillers under the Kaura Development Agenda (KADAGE) to stimulate agricultural productivity.

Chief of Staff, Government House, Attahiru Maccido, reported an allocation of N1.4 billion for acquiring school furniture to enhance the learning environment in schools throughout the state.
